Abstract

This research work investigates the adaptation strategies to climate change by rural
communities along river Benue in Adamawa State Nigeria. A multistage sampling was also
employed, in the first stage three communities were randomly selected from each of the selected
LGAs and the second stage involves the allocation of four hundred and sixty-three interview
schedules to respondents. The data obtained were analysed using descriptive and inferential
statistics such as percentages, cross tabulations and Chi square. The result of the study showed
that farmers in the study area are aware of climate change uncertainties. The study also reveals
that farmers practiced various adaptation strategies. The study recommends that improved crop
varieties that are able to withstand severe droughts, tolerate higher temperatures and mature
early should be developed
